Permanent Jewelry Frequently Asked Questions
-
Permanent jewelry is a custom-fit bracelet, ring, anklet, toe ring or necklace that has no need for a clasp. The jewelry is fitted to your body and attached by using a jump ring and a quick, safe micro-weld so it stays on and is seamless.
-
Absolutely Not! The weld is applied to a tiny jump ring connecting the chain and never touches your skin. A protective barrier is placed between your skin and the chain during the process for added safety and security.
-
Absolutely! Permanent jewelry is designed to be worn daily. You can shower, swim, and exercise while wearing it. To keep it looking its best, occasional cleaning with mild dish soap and water is recommended. We also provide you with a small cleaning cloth and spoolie for gentle cleaning
-
Most people are able to travel through TSA with Permanent Jewelry without any issues. However, some security policies can vary. If you’re ever asked to remove it, simply cut the jump ring and we will be happy to it rewelded it at a later time.

OTC Designs uses mainly 14K Gold-Filled and Sterling Silver for Permanent Jewelry, but also a select few Stainless Steel and PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) Chains that have been meticulously tested for sensitivity, wear and longevity.
-
PVD or Physical Vapor Deposition is a high-tech vacuum process that bonds an incredibly durable coating to any metal surface at the atomic level. PVD uses between a 1% and 5% Gold deposit over a base metal (304 and 316 surgical stainless steel) It differs from Gold Plating which is dipped into a Gold bath and does not adhere at the molecular level which is why it will flake, peel or come off in a short period of time.
PVD has superior durability over Gold Plating. It is water and sweat resistant, fade resistant, corrosion resistant, hypoallergenic and offers great value. Making Permanent Jewelry accessible for those on a tight budget that still want that sparkle.
-
14K Gold-filled and sterling silver jewelry are durable, but in certain circumstances can tarnish over time. Frequent exposure to harsh chemicals, chlorine, perfumes, or lotions may potentially affect the metal. If you ever notice any tarnishing, contact us for guidance on cleaning or restoring your piece.
-
In the event that you need to remove your jewelry (for medical procedures, travel, etc.), simply cut the jump ring that connects the chain or contact us for proper removal. Afterward, the chain can be brought back to us to be rewelded free of charge.
-
If your chain happens to break within 14 days of your appointment, contact us IMMEDIATELY with pictures via email or text and save the chain. We will determine if there is a flaw in the chain and can reweld it for free if no defects are found OR replace it depending on damages. After the 14 day period, reweld services are available for $10.
-
Absolutely! We are happy to reapply your Jewelry from another Jeweler, HOWEVER, the only part we guarantee is the jump ring and weld. We are NOT liable for any chain not supplied by OTC Designs.
